Champagne Gamet Rive Droite Blanc Des Noir Brut 750ml

Dating back to the 1950s, the Gamet winery is located is just west of the town of Epernay, near the Cte sud dEpernay, a series of hills that encircles the second most important urban center in Champagne. Here, all three major grape varieties thrive on different soils. The subsoil is chalk, with various depths of clay, marl, and silex. The vineyards in each of these three villages face different directions, giving different characters to the wines even though they are less than 8km away from each other.

The Rive Droite Blanc de Noirs expression is composed of 85% Pinot Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir, so a white Champagne derived entirely from red grapes. Farmed entirely organic, harvested completely by hand, and aged 18 months on the lees, it offers plenty of red fruited flavors with baked apple notes, with subtle spices and a lovely brioche finish.

91 POINTS: VINOUS – Gamets NV Extra Brut Blanc des Noirs Rive Droite is bright, effusive and full of character. Dried pear, kirsch, cinnamon, dried flowers and nuts all grace this silky, understated Champagne, comprised of 85% Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir from Fleury-la-Rivire and Damery. The dosage feels a bit low to me (5 grams per liter), but otherwise, this is nicely done. Aeration helps pull this together.
